Half Marathon 2024
What is it?
The Sheffield Half Marathon stands out as one of the most well-attended half marathons nationwide, drawing in thousands of runners with varying abilities to traverse the city's streets annually. Not only does it provide a platform for runners, but it also raises substantial funds for numerous charitable causes.
What did I do?
Every design decision was made with the aim of capturing the essence of this exhilarating event and inspiring participants to lace up and join the excitement. I chose to include illustration to help with this. For the character, I wanted to create someone that could span a number of age ranges as the event supports runners of many ages.
As the event is being held in Europe’s second greenest city, and also spans the beautiful Peak District, it was important that I included some greenery within the different compositions.
Process. . .
To ensure the illustration would work the way I wanted it to, I began by completing the outline and then adding in the darker shadows.
I then began to add in colour and texture. I wanted a palette bursting with vitality, but one that could be used in a more realistic way - for things like trees, greenery, etc.
